Poynton Rambling Club Affiliations:
The Ramblers is Britain's biggest walking organisation, providing help and advice on walking anywhere in England, Scotland and Wales. A registered charity with 139,000 members, they have been looking after Britain's footpaths and defending its' beautiful countryside for more than 65 years.
HF Holidays have been creating walking and activity holidays in UK, Europe and Worldwide for people of all abilities since 1913.
Peak & Northern Footpaths Society has been active for well over 100 years, promoting the interests of public footpath users in the North Midlands and North West of England. Their activities monitor, protect, and improve the footpath network for the benefit of all.
Walking in the East Cheshire and Peak District areas:
Go 4 A Walk showing walks in our local area on OS Explorer sheet 268. The website also has a vast range of walks in other parts of the UK and general information also.
Walking in Cheshire has more than 130 free walks to download, detailing all books, maps and walking groups in the county.
East Cheshire Rangers Service providing local countryside information and free download leaflets, describing walks & trails in the East Cheshire area, including several routes from Nelson's Pit and Adlington CP and other Countryside sites.
Macclesfield Canal includes detailed maps of the canal, which passes through our area, from High Lane to Bollington, passing Higher Poynton.
Goyt Valley includes details of 18 walks in and around the Errwood reservoir.
Peak Walking both provide multiple walking routes in the Peak District.
Useful Resources for Walking Activities:
Rainfall Radar part of the Met Office site, very effective App resource on your SmartPhone when walking. Mountain Weather Forecasts for UK includes a Peak District forecast.
OS Maps Very effective resource for route planning and using as GPS on your SmartPhone when walking. GPX Files of some scheduled walks are available on the Walk Schedule
Grid Reference Finder very useful resource for finding and verifying UK Grid References.
Peak District Car Park Status - Keep informed of the status of your favourite car parks.
What3Words(W3W): A free app designed to identify any location on the surface of the Earth with three unique words, very useful for identifying walk starts. Can be used to inform Emergency services the location of an accident.
